JIFX 25-4

11–15 August 2025

NPS Field Laboratory at Camp Roberts
Event Focus Area: Human Machine Integration

JIFX events provide an opportunity for technology developers to interact with operational personnel to determine how their technology and ideas may support or enhance USG/DoD capabilities. The environment facilitates a collaborative learning environment between government, academia, industry, and NGOs to promote the identification and assessment of emerging and maturing technologies. These events enable rapid iteration on nascent technologies with the direct input of end users. Submissions that relate to any of the RFI areas of interest (including areas not listed below) will be considered for acceptance.

Overview:

As technology becomes increasingly integrated into all facets of operations, the effectiveness of Human Machine Integration (HMI) is paramount for mission success. The JIFX program invites innovators, technologists, and field experts to collaborate on advancing HMI solutions that enhance decision-making, operational efficiency, and user experience through seamless interaction between humans and machines.

Why Human Machine Integration?

In fast-paced, data-rich environments, effective HMI allows operators to better leverage complex systems, process information quickly, and make accurate, informed decisions. Advances in HMI technology enable adaptive interfaces, intuitive controls, and cognitive support systems that empower personnel while reducing workload and fatigue.

  1. Collaborative Robots and Autonomous Systems
  2. Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) for Enhanced Situational Awareness
  3. Wearable and Biometric Systems
  4. Intuitive User Interfaces
  5. AI-Assisted Decision Support Systems
  6. Voice and Gesture Control

Who Should Get Involved?

This focus area is ideal for HMI researchers, defense agencies, tech developers, behavioral scientists, interface designers, and field operators. Anyone invested in improving synergy between humans and machines, especially in complex, dynamic environments, is encouraged to contribute.
