Managing Director
Pathfinder Partners LLC
Biography
Phil Gioia is a founding partner of Pathfinder Partners LLC, located at the Presidio of San Francisco. Pathfinder is retained by government clients in the defense, intelligence and national security sectors, to search for technology, products, and developmental efforts which may assist them in better performing their missions. Although Pathfinder's principals possess clearances which allow them to discuss their clients' classified needs, all Pathfinder's searches on behalf of its clients are open source, and unclassified. Pathfinder has been variously reported by its government clients as "consistently demonstrating the capability of finding the needle in the haystack", and "the 'tip of the spear', and a 'continuous force-multiplier', in identification and qualification of high-value opportunities". Phil will comment on several examples of energy-related and other technologies and products sourced through Pathfinder's efforts. Graduating from Virginia Military Institute in 1967 as a Distinguished Military Graduate with a Bachelors in History and a Regular Army commission, Phil served for ten years as an Infantry officer, holding command assignments in airborne and airmobile infantry units in the United States and the war in Vietnam, during which he received two awards of the Silver Star, two awards of the Purple Heart, and the Bronze Star with 'V' device. He was a Combat Infantryman, Ranger, Pathfinder, and Parachutist. Phil also holds a Master of Science in Foreign Service from the Graduate School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University, and a Master of Business Administration from Stanford University. Following business school, he worked in the financial sector for Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley in New York and San Francisco, focusing on emerging-growth technology. He also founded and served as President and CEO of Zeus Inc., an integrator of military communications technology, developing frequency-hopping wireless communication chip sets and other products. He served as President and CEO of Indivos Inc, which developed biometric authentication systems for the electronic payments and defense sectors.
