Abstract

Geothermal energy offers a vast, renewable source of sustainable baseload power with huge potential for growth. It provides constant, emissions-free electricity to complement solar and wind. It supports military energy security, cost savings, and climate goals. It is an abundant, sustainable energy poised for major expansion to meet rising electricity demand and accelerate the clean energy transition. This presentation provides an overview of geothermal energy and its advantages.

Biography

Eric Peterson is Founder and Head Geoscientist of Honua Resources LLC, a startup focused on geothermal energy development. He performs subsurface mapping and modeling to identify and repurpose depleted oil and gas wells for clean electricity generation. Peterson is actively working to secure funding from government and private sources to advance Honua's mission of accelerating the transition to renewable energy. Peterson has 16 years of experience working for leading energy companies such as Schlumberger and BHP. He has recently been accepted to work out of the NewLab mulit-disciplinary technology center in Brooklyn, New York. In addition to his industry work, Peterson has collaborated with top universities on research consortia, recruiting, student mentorship and competitions. He has co-authored several publications for industry conferences and journals.
