Peter Zeihan VIP Lecture - Energy Academic Group
Peter Zeihan VIP Lecture
30 May – 1 June 2023
Glasgow Hall, Room #109
Naval Postgraduate School
EAG will host a VIP lecture on Wednesday, 31 May from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. in Glasgow Hall, Room #109. The lecture is titled “The Green Wars” presented by Mr. Peter Zeihan.
Mr. Zeihan is a geopolitical strategist, who combines an expert understanding of demography, economics, energy, politics, technology, and security to help stakeholders best prepare for an uncertain future. He is a New York Times bestselling author whose first three books — The Accidental Superpower, The Absent Superpower and Disunited Nations — have been recommended by Mitt Romney, Fareed Zakaria and Ian Bremmer. Peter is also a highly sought after public speaker. With a keen eye toward what will drive tomorrow’s headlines, his irreverent approach transforms topics that are normally dense and heavy into accessible, relevant takeaways for audiences of all types. Peter’s fourth book, The End of the World is Just the Beginning: Mapping the Collapse of Globalization, was published in June 2022 and was a New York Times bestseller.
Mr. Zeihan will discuss the strategic implications of the Green Age. Much of the world has politically committed to a zero-carbon future. Unfortunately, there are any number of reasons why it will not – cannot – manifest: demographic, trade, capital, and technological challenges. The biggest limitation by far, however, is materials access. For the next few decades, there may be enough lithium, copper, nickel, and the rest for the United States, but there is certainly not enough for all. If the United States is serious about the Green Transition, the carbonless era will be far more violent than what it seeks to displace.
There will be a book signing and Q&A session at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, 30 May in the Dudley Knox Library, Room #TBD.
